Recently I was surfing over internet when I came across the question, “What changes can be expected in GATE 2015”. As I run one of the most reputed gate coaching institutes in Hyderabad, this question captured my interest instantly. At my institute I discussed this with my students and we had an extensive discussion over this topic. I thought this discussion will be helpful for the candidates as it will help them to focus better and crack the exam easily.
Last year also, we saw some major changes in the pattern of GATE 2014 and all these changes took place in no time. But the best thing was that now there was no need for the candidates to write on paper, instead they had to just click the right answers. The computer based exam is much easier to handle. As the education ministry plans to invite the intervention of some highly reputed international test taking agencies in planning the online GATE exam, we can expect to see some major changes in the pattern as well as in the method of preparation in the coming years.
Here are a few changes that according to me are likely to be acknowledged.
- The first and foremost change that will be seen by the candidates will be in the question paper itself. There are chances that GATE committee might approve of adaptive test. In that case every candidate will be provided with a different question paper. This will be one of the major changes and will change the way candidates are taught in the GATE coaching classes.
- Another change can be seen in the way in which the score used to be calculated. Students can except to see changes in the level of difficulty as well.
- The GATE committee also plans to alter the exam time by splitting the session in two parts instead of one exam.
